When You're Hurting and Questioning God's Plan: Finding Peace in the Pain

When You're Hurting and Questioning God's Plan: Finding Peace in the Pain

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

—Psalm 34:18 (NIV)

I’ve had a lot of conversations lately with people I love—people who are hurting, confused, and wondering what God is doing. They’re looking at their disappointments and asking, “Why would God let this happen?”

And I understand it. I’ve felt that before too.

But here’s what I believe deep in my soul:

God’s plan is not for you to live in misery.
His heart is peace. His way is redemption.
His plan is always rooted in love—even when life isn’t.

So many of our wounds aren’t from God’s will, but from human choices—our own or others’. We live in a broken world where people often act out of fear, pride, or pain. But that’s not the same as God’s intention for you.

We confuse what happens with what God wants.
We assume that pain means punishment.
We assume that silence means absence.

But here’s the truth:

Life can be painful.
But even in the pain, God’s ultimate plan is this:

That we would learn to trust Him.
That we would come to know Him, see Him, and love Him.

Because when we walk with Him—when we truly seek Him—
We may not avoid hardship,
but we find peace in the middle of it.

He never promised ease.
But He did promise presence.

And that presence changes everything.

💭 When You’re Wrestling with God’s Plan

“Why is God allowing this pain?”
Here’s what you can do:

Be honest with God.
You don’t need to hide your emotions. God can handle your questions, your grief, even your anger.
Pray something simple:
“God, I don’t understand this—but I still want to know You. Help me.”

Remember who God is.
Not everything that happens is His doing—but He can work through everything.
He is Healer. He is Redeemer. He is near. (Psalm 34:18)

Seek His presence, not just His answers.
Sometimes what you need isn’t an explanation—it’s His nearness.
Let Him comfort you before you try to “figure it all out.”

Talk to someone you trust.
You don’t have to carry it alone. Reach out to a mentor, a counselor, or a friend who can remind you of truth when you forget it.

Take one small step toward healing.
Read one Scripture. Say one prayer. Take one breath.
Write one honest sentence in your journal.
Healing starts small—but it grows when you don’t give up.

Maybe today you’re wondering what God is doing.
Maybe you’re asking, “Is this really the plan?”

Let me gently say: this may not be the plan—but God can still use it.

What people meant for harm, He can turn for good.
What feels like an ending, He can make into a beginning.
What feels heavy now, He can lift—with time, truth, and healing.

You’re still in the middle of the story.

So don’t let your pain tell you who God is.
Let His presence show you what’s still possible.

He hasn’t left you.
He hasn’t forgotten.
He’s just not finished yet.

Hold on to hope.
Stay open to healing.
And know this—you are loved, even in the questioning.

—Faithfully,
Iris
